A soup kitchen is about to get a little bit fresher thanks
to one local farm. Maris Farm in Turin donated fresh vegetables from its last harvest to the
Salvation Army soup kitchen in Watertown. Potatoes, cabbage, kale and other veggies will be used to freshen up the
noontime dinner plate for the next few days.
"They deserve something better to eat at those locations besides canned
food and that's good too, but fresh food is more nutritious and better for
them," said Stephen Amaral of the Kenmax Foundation.
"It's huge for us because otherwise we couldn't afford to go buy fresh fruits
and vegetables," said Major Robin Holmes of the Salvation Army.
Maris Farm is sponsored by the Kenmax Foundation, a non-profit group from
Lewis County which provides fresh vegetables to organizations in need.
